The Ferroli Modena HE domestic combi boiler has proved itself to be the ‘David’ of the boiler arena by beating a commercial ‘Goliath’ to win the job.

A social club in Stockton-on-Tees that was without heating for three years because of the unaffordable cost of a new commercial boiler has piping hot radiators again following the installation of two Ferroli Modena HE domestic combi boilers at half the cost.

The patrons of Oxbridge Social Club had been loyally braving the chill of the unheated venue after the old commercial boiler was condemned and the club was unable to afford the £20,000+ their gas engineer had quoted them for a similar replacement.

But when Mark Ellis of E-Fix Property Services from Stockton-on-Tees heard about their problem after a chance meeting with the club’s engineer in the Stockton branch of James Hargreaves, he knew from his experience of the Modena HE boiler that it could be the very affordable answer to their problem.

Not one to be discouraged by his sceptical colleague, who was adamant that only a bigger commercial boiler could do the job, Mark proposed using two Modena boilers, a 38kW and a 32kW model. With the total cost coming in at less than half than the commercial boiler and with the Modena’s seven year parts and labour warranty – unheard of on a commercial boiler – there was no contest and Mark was instructed to go ahead with the installation.

After the boilers were installed the existing 22mm pipework was upgraded to 54mm to improve circulation. Within no time at all, even running off just one of the new boilers, the radiators throughout the club were blazing hot – all for a fraction of the cost that the club had been expecting to pay and with the valuable back-up of the seven year warranty.

“The performance of the Modena is incredible,” said Mark. “I knew that it would be able to cope with the demands of this installation and that a big over-priced, over-engineered commercial boiler just wasn’t necessary. For the footprint of this building, it’s very impressive that a domestic boiler the size of the Modena can deliver more than enough heat and hot water.

“The Modena is the only boiler I will install now for my customers. In fact, I have so much faith in this boiler that I give my customers my own personal guarantee in addition to Ferroli’s own warranty. I don’t advertise, all my business is continuous and by word of mouth, so I only recommend products that I know are 100% reliable.

“The Modena is so easy to work on and it’s extremely energy efficient. It’s also so small and light you can lift it without risking injury and install it practically anywhere, such as an airing cupboard or a loft.

“When I first heard about the Modena I thought I’d give it a try as I would never discount something without making my own decision. I knew that Ferroli had suffered in the past from the ‘Skoda effect’, but times change and you need to keep yourself up to date; after all, the police and the ambulance service drive Skodas now which speaks for itself!”

The European version of the Ferroli Modena HE boiler has been awarded Best Boiler on the market by a Spanish consumer magazine survey.

The BlueHelix Tech 25C, which is the same design and construction as the Ferroli’s UK model the Modena HE, came out top in a survey of eight major boiler brands published in October 2016 by Spanish consumer magazine Compra Maestra. Also achieving the same score was the Cointra Superlative Condens 25C boiler.

The aspects take into account in the analysis of the boilers were annual cost, power, performance, operation in summer and winter, hot water production, CO and NOx emissions and fuel consumption.

The survey concluded that the BlueHelix delivers excellent performance in both heating and hot water modes, especially in winter, and that it is highly energy efficient and economical on fuel.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Ferroli Service Team to provide service and repairs to their range of domestic and commercial boiler products. Ideally based in the North London area, covering London and the Home Counties, the Technical Service Engineer will predominately work on Ferroli products; however, it is possible that on occasion they may be required to carry out system work which will primarily be “dry” but system pumps and motorised valves may require replacement.

An extremely flexible and adaptable approach is required to ensure service delivery meets and, wherever possible, exceeds customer expectations. Within the scope of this role consideration must also be given to the significant amount of driving being undertaken during the execution of a typical working day.

Key responsibilities:

Responsible for attending both breakdown and planned preventative maintenance calls to Ferroli customers. You will work mainly on an individual basis and may also be asked to provide assistance on a job requiring two persons.

• Attend both “In” and “Out” of warranty breakdown calls
• Provide annual servicing to Ferroli appliances
• Carry out fault finding to heating systems through to final repair
• Provide assistance in resolving product related issues

The successful candidate will hold Gas ACS certificates, CCN1, HTR1, CEN1 and WAT1. You will be expected to exhibit levels of communication and customer service skills whilst representing the Company on a professional level at all times. A work rota is in place which requires some Saturday working during the winter period.

Salary commensurate with experience.

We are very pleased to announce that all the telephone numbers you need to contact Ferroli have been changed to 03 numbers, which cost the same national rate from mobiles and landlines as 01 and 02 numbers.

We know that 0843 numbers are not popular so we’ve listened to our customers and made the changes you’ve asked for to improve your customer experience with Ferroli.

We’re very pleased to introduce you to the four members of our Domestic Sales Team who cover every corner of the UK and everywhere in between!

Our four Divisional Sales Managers are Martin Youd (North), Gerry Lanagan (Scotland & Ireland), AJ Kalirai (Midlands & Wales) and newest team member Lee Mumford (South & South East).

Martin, who lives in Liverpool, has been in the industry for 40 years and returned to Ferroli in November 2015 having spent eight years with the company from 2000 to 2008. He began his career in the plumbing merchant sector where he was a branch manager before moving into sales with Robert McAlpine Concrete Masonry, Glow-worm, Rite-Vent Flues and Stelrad Radiators.

Lee joined Ferroli in April this year from Plumbase where he was a branch manager for eight years. He has a lifetime’s experience of working in the merchant sector having started his career when he was just 15 years old.

Gerry Lanagan, who is a qualified heating engineer and is based in Glasgow, spent 11 years with Ferroli from 1997 to 2006 and returned to the team in April 2014 after working with Vaillant Group and Ideal Heating.

AJ Kalirai is also a long-standing member of our team, having originally joined Ferroli in 2008 for a year and returning in 2012. He has a lifetime’s experience of the boiler industry, having previously  worked with Remeha and Biasi UK Ltd as an area sales manager.
